  ATTENTION CRANE OPERATORS

OPERATING ENGINEER CRANE CERTIFICATION PROGRAM (OECP)

Over the years, cranes have received increased attention from the public, the construction industry, the media, and regulatory agencies.  Although the
construction industry and regulatory agencies have recognized the need for certification of crane operators, it has been difficult to achieve to date because of the wide diversity of the available crane types used in this industry.

Recently, many states have enacted or are in the process of enacting, regulations that require some form of crane operator certification.  It was in response to these regulations that the Operating Engineers Certification Program (OECP) was formed.

The OECP is an independent, non-profit organization formed to provide members of the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) a means to obtain a valid and reliable certification that accurately assesses their competence in craning operations, thereby directly promoting a safer jobsite environment for the worker, the public and the industry.

All candidates to the certification program will be required to pass both written and practical examinations in order to be certified.

Eligibility Requirements:

● Must be an IUOE Member in good standing
● Posses a valid U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) medical
Card or a state issued Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) medical card.
● Comply with the OECP’s Substance abuse policy
● Have 1,000 hours of documented crane related experience and/or training in the last five (5) years.
● Pass written examinations
● Pass practical examination(s)
