FAQ
2.
The info we found on the internet states that your classes are accredited
through 3. We see the list of Class Descriptions on your web site...two week, one week, two day, and one day classes. What are the other classes that are required to meet the 400 hours of classroom instruction? See current apprentice information for classes currently required by the apprenticeship program. Many classes listed on our site are Skill Improvement classes for members of Local 139. They are NOT necessarily apprenticeship classes. 4. When do the classes start? To be an apprentice, you must be hired by a contractor. There are NO classes before they start as an apprentice. Apprentices receive on-the-job training from contractors. Apprentices come to classes at the training site during the winter and spring, when they are normally laid-off. They must take 1 two week class and 2 one-week classes per year. There are specific classes they must take each year. You can find the list of currently required classes on the website at http://www.woetrainingcenter.org/apprentice-current.html, current wage rates are also available there.

My son may be losing his valid drivers license due to some moving traffic
violations. When they are reinstated can he apply, or will his
driving record affect his chances of getting into your program?
He
needs a valid driver's license. An occupational is fine. 6. Is there a waiting list for students to get into your program? No. Applicants who have met the minimum requirements to be an apprentice are given a "Letter of Eligibility" to take with them when they apply for jobs with contractors. They should make copies of the "Letter of Eligibility" to leave with their job applications. If an employer wants to hire them, the employer then fills out the back of the "Letter of Eligibility". This starts the paperwork rolling for the person to begin their apprenticeship.
7. Do
they start with classes before being hired for the apprenticeship, or does
it all fall together at the same time? Do they do initial training
with equipment at your facility, or do they start right out on the job?
They start their jobs before coming to school. Normally they work the
entire summer before coming to do the classroom portion of their
schooling. Their employer's are registered trainers with the State
of 8. Are the apprenticeship classes consecutive, or done in short time frames? It is the apprentice’s responsibility to sign up for their required classes. They may arrange their classes in any manner they wish as long as they take the classes required and the classes are still available. Early sign-up is essential. 9. If someone applies in October, when could they expect to get into the program? The program has changed. Applications will be available at information sessions on the second Tuesday of each month from May through October. 10. Is there a cost to apply to the program? Yes. There is fee to take the Job Skills test. Once you are employed, become an apprentice and sign up for classes, there are Fox Valley Tech fees that must be paid. In the 2007-2008 academic year a two week class will cost $213.11 and a one-week class $96.95, payable the first day of class. Also, if you are employed with a contractor signatory to the union you will need to pay an initiation fee and dues. *If you are
