National Commission for the Certification The National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (CCO for short) is an independent not-for-profit organization formed to establish and administer a nationwide program of certification for crane operators. The purpose of the CCO is to set standards for measuring knowledge and proficiency required for the safe operation of cranes. All candidates are required to pass both the written and practical examinations in order to be certified. The initial certification period is for five (5) years, after which an operator is required to re-certify. Eligibility:
Candidates must pass the Practical exam within twelve months of
passing the written exam. "The National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators was founded in January 1995 to establish a comprehensive and independent means of assessing crane operator knowledge and skills. Key to this industry-led effort was the development of the CCO core and specialty written examinations and the practical "hands-on" examinations. - CCO Candidate Handbook
